Time Block Planner for Study Days

Set when your day starts and ends, add the appointments that cannot move, then list your tasks with their lengths and priorities. The planner fits the tasks into the free time, adds the breaks you choose and keeps a buffer around appointments for travel or setup. It shows each block with its clock time, the free time left and what does not fit before the day ends. You can plan in the order you listed or by priority, allow long tasks to be split around appointments, and export the day as a calendar file, a CSV or text.

Runs in your browser. Saving a plan is optional, stays on this device and can be deleted at any time.

Fixed appointments

Classes, meetings or anything that cannot move. Tasks are planned around them.

How it works

  1. Set when your day starts and ends, and add any fixed appointments with their start and end times.
  2. List your tasks with minutes and priority. Choose whether to plan them as listed or highest priority first.
  3. Set break lengths, how often the long break comes, the buffer around appointments, and whether tasks may be split.
  4. Read the schedule, the free time and the Not scheduled list. Copy it, download a CSV or calendar file, or print it.

Options explained

Order of tasks
As listed keeps your order. Highest priority first sorts by priority and keeps your order within the same priority.
Breaks
A short break follows a work block and a long break follows every n-th work block. A break is only added when the next piece of work follows it before an appointment or the end of the day.
Buffer
Minutes kept free before and after each appointment, from 0 to 60.
Allow a task to be split
When a task does not fit before an appointment, it uses the gap up to the appointment (at least 15 minutes, and never leaving a piece under 5) and continues after it.

How the result is worked out

  • Free time is your day window minus each appointment and its buffer. Tasks go into the first gap big enough for them.
  • Placement never goes back: a later, shorter task is not used to fill an earlier gap that a longer task skipped.
  • Work that does not fit before the end of the day is listed as Not scheduled with its minutes. Nothing is dropped or overlapped.
  • Overlapping appointments are reported as conflicts, and appointments outside the day window are flagged.

Example

A day from 09:00 to 17:00 with a lecture from 10:00 to 11:00 and tasks of 50, 45 and 30 minutes, with 5-minute breaks. Read takes 09:00 to 09:50. Write would run into the lecture, so it starts at 11:00 and ends at 11:45, followed by a break and Review from 11:50 to 12:20. Free time is left in the morning and the afternoon.

Tips for better results

  • Put your hardest task in the first block, when you are most alert.
  • Leave a few spare minutes after tasks that tend to overrun, instead of packing every minute.
  • Match break length to effort: a short break after light tasks, a longer one after demanding ones.
  • Try listed order and highest priority first, and see how the finish time and free time change.

Limitations

  • It plans a single day inside one calendar date. Plans that cross midnight are not supported.
  • Estimates are yours, and real tasks tend to overrun, so leave slack.
  • It does not read your calendar. Add the appointments yourself.
  • A saved plan lives in this browser only. The calendar file uses clock times without a time zone, so it appears at the same hour wherever you import it.

Frequently asked questions

What is time blocking?

Giving each task a fixed slot in your day instead of working from an open list. It makes you decide in advance what fits and when.

What happens if my tasks do not fit?

The ones that do not fit are listed under Not scheduled with their minutes, and a warning says how much work is left out.

Why did a short task not fill an earlier gap?

Tasks are placed in order and the planner never goes back. If you want a short task earlier, move it up the list or give it a higher priority.

Can I skip breaks?

Yes. Set both break lengths to 0 and tasks follow each other directly.
